Niagara SPCA Rescues Severely Ill Snake Named Poly, Now in Recovery

The Niagara SPCA has taken in a severely ill snake named Poly who was recently surrendered during a welfare check at a local residence. The reptile was found in poor health suffering from muscle wasting, dehydration and a chronic respiratory infection.

According to a statement from the SPCA shared on social media Thursday, Poly was immediately examined by Dr. Hess at Specialized Care for Avian and Exotic Pets. After undergoing blood tests and overnight observation, she was tube-fed a diluted formula and placed on antibiotics.

"While the photo doesn't fully capture the severity of her condition, it is quite significant," the SPCA wrote. "She is also experiencing neurological symptoms, likely due to imbalances in her body chemistry caused by extreme muscle loss."

Poly has since been placed with an experienced foster caregiver where she will continue receiving the care needed to fight for a second chance at life.
