Niagara Falls Police responded to Save-A-Lot on the 1700 block of Pine Avenue around 4:30pm on March 26th after reports of a larceny.
Upon arrival, officers spoke to the store manager who stated he discovered an employee had been stealing money from cash registers over an extended period of time.
The store manager brought officers to his office where he currently had the female employee. He further explained to officers that prior to their arrival, the employee admitted in writing to taking over $800 over a period of 5 months. The store manager handed the paper to police, which the employee confirmed she signed.
Officers were then provided evidence that the employee stole $51 during her shift on March 17th and $65 during her shift on March 21st for a total of $116. During both incidents, the same unknown black female walked into the store while the employee was working the cash register. The employee handed the cash to this unknown female who then immediately left the store.
The employee was fired and trespassed from all Save-A-Lot locations. Officers then placed her under arrest. At this time, she was only being charged for the $116 that the store manager could prove she stole.
Officers noted in the official incident report that the actual amount stolen by the former employee over the course of her employment (1 year) is unknown and likely far exceeds $1,000.
The former employee was transported to police headquarters for booking and processing. She was released with an appearance ticket.
No further information is available at this time.
